My Top 5 Sewing Plans for September!

My Top 5 Sewing Plans for September!

One of my favourite things to do when I have a spare moment in the evening is to get cosy and plan some new makes! It feels crazy to be thinking of Autumn sewing when we've barely had a Summer this year in the UK, but as September rapidly approaches, I have to admit that I'm starting to feel the Autumnal vibes...

I've really been enjoying being a lot more intentional with my makes recently. It's led to me sewing up pieces that fit in so much better with the rest of my wardrobe. So, instead of just keeping these plans to myself, I thought I'd document some of the projects I have planned in case your in need of some inspo or fancy being wardrobe twins.

(PS: No one hold me to these plans because I change my mind very quickly...)

In no particular order, here's my top 5 sewing plans for Autumn:

1) The Hazel Dress- Veronica Tucker The Label

This pattern is well and truly a stunner. You know I'm a fan of gathering and this dress has it in abundance. I am concerned it may take me weeks to get through gathering all these tiers but I'm sure it would be worth it!

The tiers make for a super chic and floaty silhouette and I think it would look stunning in a lightweight viscose or chiffon. I've saved myself some of the Green Floral Viscose Blend (now sold out) that has just been stocked in the shop, because I think the pop of colour would be the perfect match for this dress. Just imagine it paired with some patterned tights, knee high boots and a fur gilet in the colder weather...perfection!
2) The Stacker Jacket- Papercut Patterns
This super versatile jacket/ shacked pattern has been sat in my stash since last Autumn as I sadly never got round to sewing it last year.
I saw Tammy Handmade sew up a gorgeous corduroy version last year and that cemented the fact that I absolutely need to make one. I had a blush pink corduroy saved in my stash for it but, as I'm often swayed by new fabrics, I now can't wait to use my new Floral Brushed Cotton.
I can also imagine this with a gorgeous matching skirt for the ultimate cold-weather two piece- so watch this space!
3) The Saturday Skirt Set- Friday Pattern Company
Despite wanting to prioritise my casual wardrobe because *MUM LIFE*... I do always enjoy sewing some dressier options for when we manage a date night out. I think this two piece could be the best of both worlds.
The set features a simple midi skirt with an elasticated waist and a matching blouse that has the option to be tied in the front or back. I think both pieces could look amazing worn together or as separates, so this pattern definitely gets bonus points for versatility! Now just wait for the fabric choice...
I absolutely love this buttery soft satin this is new in to the shop. Again, this is quite a muted colour palette for me, but I've always loved a good print and this Aztec design is no exception. Imagine this paired with some gold jewellery and strappy heeled sandals... a seriously chic date night outfit for Autumn.
4) Pomona Pants- Anna Allen Clothing
You'll be pleased to know I haven't completely lost sight of the day to day basics that I'll need to reach for once the weather turns. The Pomona Pants are a firm favourite with me- I previously made a khaki pair that I wore to death (literally), so they definitely need a replacement this year.
In terms of value for money, this pattern is a winner. It offers both a tapered and wide leg version and the option to add large patch pockets. Playing around with these options can create wildly different results. Without the pockets, the trousers are made from just two pattern pieces so these would be amazing for a beginner sewer.
As for my fabric choice, I'm going for this amazingly soft cupro.
I love sewing with cupro- it's nice and stable, and is a more sustainable fabric option as it's made from the waste from the production of cotton fabrics.
5) The Anthea Blouse- Anna Allen Clothing
Again, I've sewn this blouse before, but that just shows how much I love this pattern!
One of my favourite makes this summer was my Anthea Blouse in this floral cotton from Fabric Godmother. It's rare that I can sew up a pattern without any changes to the fit, but this top was perfection from my first sew!
The pattern also offers an option to make a shirt dress, simply by extending the front and back bodice pieces and adding a waist tie. I think this would look amazing in our Khaki broderie fabric.
As broderie has it's classic tiny holes throughout, this make would need lining, however I do have a black slip dress I could pair under it which would make it an even easier sew!
So that's it for my sewing plans so far. I'm constantly adapting my plans depending on what inspires me in the moment, but I do feel spoiled for choice with all these amazing fabrics to choose from. Make sure to check out our New In section of the shop for lots more Autumnal goodies!
Lots of love
Brogan
